When you book freight, the service can cover different parts of the journey. Door-to-door and port-to-port describe how much of the route the forwarder handles for you.
What each option covers
- Port-to-port: covers the main carriage between the origin and destination ports only.
- Door-to-door: covers the entire journey, including pickup at origin and delivery to the final address.
- Other variants include door-to-port and port-to-door.
Which to choose
Door-to-door is the simplest for the customer because one provider manages everything, including the first and last mile and customs. Port-to-port can suit experienced shippers who arrange their own inland transport and clearance at each end.
