What Is a Bill of Entry in Indian Imports?
3 min read

The Bill of Entry is the document an importer files with Indian customs to clear imported goods. It is submitted electronically and triggers the assessment of duty and taxes.
What the Bill of Entry contains
- Importer and supplier details.
- Description, quantity and value of the goods.
- HS classification used to determine duty.
- Details of the carrier and the import consignment.
How it leads to release
Once filed, customs assesses classification, valuation, duty and IGST. After payment and any examination, customs issues out of charge and the goods can be moved for delivery.
