Hub-and-Spoke Distribution Explained
4 min read

Hub-and-spoke is the dominant design in modern distribution. Cargo flows into central hubs, moves between hubs in bulk, and fans out to local destinations through spokes.
How it works
Shipments from many origins are consolidated at a regional hub. Bulk line-haul moves goods between hubs efficiently, and local delivery vehicles then distribute parcels along the spokes to final destinations.
Why companies use it
- Better vehicle utilisation on the line-haul legs.
- Wider coverage with fewer direct routes.
- Faster, more predictable local delivery from nearby hubs.
